What Can Microsoft 365 Copilot Agents Actually Do for FM & Operations Teams?

Can Microsoft 365 Copilot agents actually do useful things for Facilities and Property Management and Operations teams, or is it mostly demos and marketing material it can quickly put together?

The honest answer is both, depending on what you're asking them to do. Some brief examples include the following:

1. You can describe a SharePoint list in plain English and have it built automatically — columns, field types, choice values, views — all without touching the UI.
2. You can build a Power Automate workflow by describing what you want it to do.
3. You can ask "what inspections were completed across the northern region last month?" and get a direct answer from your SharePoint data rather than navigating three different reports.
4. If you are in HR, you could ask how many people have 10 days or more annual leave left in the calendar year and have it spin out the answer in seconds.
5. Have every Teams meeting automatically summarised with decisions made and actions assigned.

For anyone managing multi-site operations, compliance schedules, or maintenance programmes, these aren't small wins. That's a lot of meaningful hours back across a team every week.

However — The Design Stage Matters

You still need expert input at the design stage:

1. Designing the data architecture
2. What lists relate to what else in the system
3. How permissions are structured
4. How the automation handles edge cases and exceptions
5. Connecting to systems outside the Microsoft ecosystem — your CMMS system, HRIS, LMS, etc.
